Social Media Contest Manager Idea

The Idea
Develop contest software that allows an organizer to easily use social media as the entry mechanism.

How it would work
The contest organizer promotes their contest, announcing that people wishing to enter simply need to Like a selected Facebook Page or Follow a specific twitter account.

After creating an account the contest organizer simply creates a new contest in the system. They select the social media networks that are allowed for entry into the contest (Facebook “Like”, Twitter “Follow”)

After the contest has ended the organizer logs into the system and defines the criteria for selecting the winner of the contest.
Contest Start and End Date
Number of winners
Required keywords (Ex: #contestname)
Must have entered during contest dates
Congratulations Message

The organizer then simply selects “Select Winners” and the system randomly selects the winners based on the specified criteria.

They can then choose to automatically send the winner(s) an automated message.

Once the contest has ended, the organizer would then receive a one page report outlining the impact of the contest (IE: Number of new followers, Facebook Likes, retweets, and total reach of the contest)

Using Twitter to report problems in your city

Looks like I may be on to a bit of a municipality support kick..

Problem
Most cities have a portion of their website to reporting problem with in the city.. Example (Potholes, Damage, etc..).  Problem is that there may be considerable time between the time you see a problem and then get to a computer, find the form and enter the address, description etc..

Idea
Use Twitter to allow citizens of city to report on problems as they see them using their smartphones.

Example
Mike is out with his kids at his community park.  When he arrives, he realizes that the grass at the park has not been maintained in what looks like a month.  He knows about www.reportinhrm.ca and browses to it on his phone.  There Mike sees two categories of things to report on.

Mike selects Park and then Grass Length.  As soon as he selects the button, Twitter opens on his iPhone and is pre populated with an existing message.  He add’s his GPS location and a photo and hits send.

Mike’s municipal rep is monitoring Twitter for such posts.  He reply’s to Mike confirming that he has received his message and has forwarded it to the appropriate department.

Mobile Grocery List Idea

I was surprised when I found out that Sobeys had create a mobile site.  Its actually really good.  It allows you to see the flyer in a mobile friendly  page as well as add your own items to the list.

There is one thing that is missing that I am really surprised no one has done yet.

The Idea

Optimize a grocery list application for the store’s layout.  Shoppers would be able to create an account on the main website and then login to their account on the mobile site.  This would allow a much more user friendly way of adding items to the list (drag and drop from specials etc..)

Once added, the list would be sorted by the layout of the store.  The user would login to the mobile version when they get to the store and the order of the list would actually make their shopping experience more efficient.

This would also allow the grocery store to highlight specials in the context of the section you are in.

If you have seen any grocery store sites you have used, let me know
